DAILY DEVOTIONAL, (WEDNESDAY 1 MARCH 2017)

Reading the Liturgy of Ash Wednesday March 1, 2017

First reading Joel 2: 12-18
"Now," Tus saith the Lord, "turn ye unto me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping and mourning." The tear your heart and not your garments, turn to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness, and relenting from calamitous punishment. Who knows? Perhaps he will turn and repent, and leave a blessing a meal offering and a drink offering to the Lord your God. Blow the trumpet in Zion, Thou holy fasting, proclaim association highway; assemble this people, consecrate the assembly, gather people who are elderly, gather the children, even children who suckle; Let the bridegroom come out of his room and the bride from her bedroom. Let the priests, the Servants of the Lord, weep between the porch in front of the altar, and said, "Have pity, O Lord, Thy people,
and let not thine inheritance, Become a reproach, so that the nations insinuated to them. Why are people saying the nation among nations: Where is their God? "And the Lord be jealous for his land, and pity on his people.
Tus saith the Lord.

Psalm Ps 51: 3-4.5-6a.12-13.14.17
Have mercy on us, O God, because we are sinners.
* Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love, according to the magnitude of Your mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!
* For I am aware of my transgressions, my sin is always looming in front of me. Against you, you alone I sinned,
evil in thy sight I did.
* Create a clean heart in me, O God, and Renew Steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me!
* Give me the joy of Your salvation, and establish the willing spirit within me. O Lord, open my lips, that my mouth to proclaim praises to You.

Second Reading 2 Corinthians 5: 20-6: 2
Brothers, we are ambassadors for Christ; as though God were making his appeal through us. In the name of Christ we ask thee, Give yourselves be reconciled with God. Christ who knew no sin was made Him to be sin for us, so that in him we are justified by God. As a group of fellow workers, we advise you that you will not make vain the grace of God you have received. For God said, "At the time I was pleased, I will listen, and on the day I saved, I'll help you." My point is, when this is the accepted time; This is the day of salvation.
Thus saith the Lord.

Introduction to Gospel Psalm 95: 8AB
On this day, if you hear the voice of God, do not vibrate the liver.

Gospel reading Matthew 6: 1-6.16-18
In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus said to His disciples, "Be careful not to do your righteousness before people
to be seen. Because if so, you have no reward from your Father in heaven. So, when you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. I tell you: 'They've got his wages.' But when you give alms, let your left hand know what your right hand. Let charity was given secretly. Then your Father, who see the hidden will reward you.
And when you pray, do not pray like the hypocrites. They love to say their prayers standing up in the synagogues and on the corners highway, so that they may be seen. I tell you, 'They've got his wages.' But when you pray,
go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. Then your Father, who see the hidden will reward you. When you fast,
do not look somber as the hypocrites. They disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you, 'They've got his wages..' But when you fast, oiled head and wash your face, so as not to be seen by others when you are fasting, but only to your Father who is in secret. Then your Father, who see the hidden will reward you. "
Thus the Gospel of the Lord.

Reflections grains.
Psalm response today goes like this: "Have mercy, O Lord, for we are sinners" Quote This psalm invites us to humbly plead with God to be merciful Father is pleased to bestow His grace and mercy to us. That means we as His people sorry for all the sins and mistakes we ever did. Ash Wednesday is the beginning of a period of repentance we as Catholics. Forty days we realize ourselves as "dust" of the world, namely, as a symbol of recognition of the weakness of our humanity. At the time of this conversion we prepare our hearts to celebrate the Passover of the Lord with the first of all to instill a sense of repentance in our hearts, respectively. So that this penitential period should bring us really really want to build a good relationship with God and our neighbors in the form of fasting, charity and prayer.
By fasting means that we lower our own souls before God and expressing our dependence upon Him. By charity we pay attention to our neighbors who are less fortunate, the poor, or who need our helping hand. And with prayer, we get closer to the God we believe in. Open your heart to His will and His will promote in our daily life. So let us ponder and do the Gospel message today, that attitude sanctimonious, hypocritical kept out of our lives, respectively. Conversely, for the attitude of our lives open to God's will and seek kindness to others, especially to those people who are always in need of help and attention.

Prayer,
My God is all-wise, we teach your people to give with joy and do not show off, do not want to be seen and praised others. Amen.
